The Venue

The 2008 Alpine Championships will again be held at Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria. Details of the resort/area can be found at www.saalbach.com.

Training Information

Ski and Snowboard Training.

Once again for the 2008 Championships we will be offering training classes for all levels of Skier and Rider – see below for your appropriate class level.

The RAF Sports Board will provide Beginners in both sports with their first 12 hours of lessons; additional lessons can be booked and paid for in resort.

As with last year we have again attempted to create a training program that complements the race program, and deconflicts the training from the racing at the same level. Please book your lessons to match your racing, and stay within your training category.

Lessons are booked by using the Race Entry form, available on the Intranet site.

Admin. Information

The aims of the RAF Ski and Snowboard Championships are to encourage fitness, competitive spirit and morale courage as well as developing organizational and leadership skills amongst officers and NCOs. The Championships also seeks to transition recreational skiing and snowboarding skills into racing with the ultimate aim of identifying new talent to represent the RAF at the Inter-Service Championships.

In order to ease the organizational burden, all personnel attending the Championships should be coordinated by a Unit (or Parent Unit) OIC. OICs must register with the Admin Chairman using the update form. Remote/detached personnel may register as Individuals.

Full eligibility details are given in the Admin Order (only available on the intranet via the RAF Portal for security reasons) but in a nutshell, all serving and ex-serving RAF, other military and MOD personnel may attend regardless or rank or ability. Contract and dependant civilians may attend if sponsored and accompanied by a member of the RAF.

OICs are responsible for ensuring that accommodation and travel arrangements are made for personnel under their control. OICs will find details of the resort package (accommodation, compulsory insurance and lift pass) at the resort website - www.saalbach.com/raf. OICs will need the required username and password which will be issued following registration. Response to registration is not automated and may take a few weeks.

OICs are also responsible for coordinating travel arrangements, for which serving personnel will be eligible to claim some costs back. Full details on this and other allowances/requirements are in the Admin Order for the 2009 Championships (available via MOD intranet). OICs without access to intranet should email the Admin Chairman for their copy.

An OIC/Team Captains Guide is also provided to help with preparing and attending the event. Click the link to view/download
.
The Championships are supported by the RAF Sports Lottery and competitors will receive a discount on their lift pass costs for each RAF Sports Lottery ticket they hold (maximum 5) - Click here for an Application Form.
